Building Recovery and Resilience in the Esketemc Community

Letwilc Ren Semc Center was created to strengthen healing and recovery within the Esketemc Nation. Rooted in community care and guided by Indigenous teachings, the Center supports individuals and families in rebuilding what we call “Recovery Capital”, the internal and external resources that help people begin and sustain their healing journey.

For generations, Esketemc people have faced immense challenges from the intergenerational effects of residential and day schools to the ongoing struggles with addiction and loss. Yet through it all, the community has continued to gather, support one another, and find new paths toward wholeness.

Our Approach

Healing at Letwilc Ren Semc Center is guided by the Medicine Wheel, which teaches balance among the four aspects of being:

  • Mental health — developing clarity, resilience, and self-understanding

  • Physical health — nurturing the body through care, activity, and sobriety

  • Spiritual health — reconnecting with ceremony, land, and ancestral wisdom

  • Emotional health — restoring relationships and honoring each person’s story

We meet each person where they are recognizing that recovery is not one path but many. For some, healing comes through time on the land; for others, through cultural ceremonies, sweat lodges, group support, or programs like AA. Our goal is always to find what helps each person reconnect with their strength, community, and spirit.

Our Impact

Donations to Letwilc Ren Semc Center directly support programs that help rebuild the community’s foundation of healing and hope, including:

  • Annual Recovery Capital Gatherings — celebrating progress, connection, and community healing
  • Cultural Ceremonies and Land-based Healing — honoring traditions that restore balance and belonging
  • Wellness Workshops and Education — building knowledge around trauma, addiction, and recovery
  • Community Celebration Events — uplifting shared success stories and strengthening bonds across generations

A Message from the Letwilc Ren Semc Team

“Our people have carried deep wounds but also deep wisdom. Recovery isn’t just about overcoming addiction; it’s about restoring the strength of our community, our families, and our spirit. Every contribution helps us continue the work of healing, guided by the land, the teachings, and the love of those who came before us.”
